conversation with a friend

A friend writes: I am ashamed to admit this but I had never read the life and teachings of Jesus. I just recently read completely through Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and it was an amazing experience! All my life I heard bits and pieces of these stories but it was second hand information for me. Now I feel like I understand Jesus from my own reading. He is much different than I thought. I am reading it over again and seeing new and amazing things. Just curious, have you ever read any the four Gospels? a natural conversation begins

It is pretty amazing when you read the Gospels (or any part of scripture) just as it is, outside of the overwhelming entirety of the Bible. This is not to say anything negative about the Bible — but to read each book individually helps to focus on it’s main story. Doing this makes each book come alive and much more intimate — letters to a friend, instead of doctrinal statements. I wrote a blog post about this several years ago: http://dianovo-cumberland.blogspot.com/2012/06/letters-from-friend.html

    Keep up the good work!

I am surprised at how many people have never read any of the stories of Jesus. Even more surprised at how many are willing. The Word does the heavy lifting!
